This election, help move our city, county forward

I am a city resident. However, this election I am most
concerned with county matters that affect me, my family
and my community.

In the city, we are debating the River District Plan, how
to manage growth and other day-to-day business. In
county affairs, we are fighting for our very survival.

What do we do without a county jail for city police to put
offenders in? What do we do with the lowest tax rate in
the state that doesn't even pay for basic services?

What do we do when O&C money drops to 90 percent,
80 percent, 60 percent, 40 percent and then nothing?
What do we do with community leaders who want to
take us back to the Stone Age?

When faced with bad choices, we can give up and just
vote for the things and elect officials who breed on fear
and short-term thinking. Or we can look forward and
plan for the future. We're in a national financial crisis
because we voted for people with short-term thinking.
Let's not continue that locally.

I'm voting for the sheriff's districts, John Harelson for
treasurer and Dwight Ellis and Harry Mackin for
commissioner.

While none of these are perfect solutions, each is a
piece of what we need to move our county and city
forward into the future. Please make sure you look to
the long-term survival of our community and, whatever
you do, vote.
